The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is fully prepared to conduct the parliamentary rerun election in the Kpandai Constituency on December 30, pending any contrary ruling from the courts.
Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission, Alfred Tetteh, disclosed this in an interview on JoyNews’ Pulse on Monday, stressing that the Commission is proceeding with preparations in line with the law.
He explained that although the EC is aware of ongoing legal processes — including an appeal and a request for interpretation at the Supreme Court following a ruling by the Tamale High Court — the Commission remains bound to act unless directed otherwise by the courts.
“As a law-abiding institution, we have fixed December 30 as the date for the election. We do not know what will come out of the appeal or the Supreme Court. Until the Appeal Court or the Supreme Court rules otherwise, we are proceeding with the December 30 date.

“In terms of preparation, we are ready for December 30 unless anything otherwise comes from the Supreme Court or the Appeal Court,” he stated.
According to Mr Tetteh, the rerun will feature the same candidates who contested the December 2024 general election — the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the All People’s Congress (APC).
He assured that all logistical and operational arrangements are on schedule, including the training of polling officials, which is expected to begin five days before the election.
On ballot paper printing, the EC official said the process would be swift since the same candidates are involved. He indicated that political parties will be given specific dates to observe the printing.
“These are ballots that we have printed before, and with the same candidates, it is quite easy. We can print 66,850 ballot papers, plus an additional two per cent, within a day or two,” he explained.
He added that the movement and distribution of ballots can be completed within two days, noting that the Commission remains well within its operational timelines.
