Jordan Ayew, captain of Ghana’s Black Stars, has backed the current squad to rise to the challenge at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L of the tournament alongside England, Panama and Croatia.
Following a strong finish to the qualifiers, five wins and a draw in their final six matches, Ayew believes the core group of players who secured qualification are capable of representing the country at the global showpiece.
“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well. I don’t think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team and, as time goes on, we are improving. We haven’t had much time to train together, but the unity is getting better and everything is improving,” he told Adom Sports in an exclusive interview.
Ayew also suggested that now may not be the right moment for major changes to the squad, though he acknowledged the final decision rests with the technical team.
“I don’t think this is the right time to make changes. But to be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to add or select.
“Whoever is added must be ready to give their all and put on a show,” he said.
Ghana’s opening game at the competition will be against Panama, in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia.
