The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is officially launching the year-long activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the Ghana Cedi (GHS) at a ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) today (October 28).
The celebration, themed “The Cedi: 60 Years of Currency in Ghana”, is aimed at highlighting the currency’s historical significance and its role in economic development and at educating the public on its features and proper handling.
The event, presided over by Governor Dr. Ernest Addison, has brought together government officials, financial sector leaders, traditional rulers, and economic stakeholders.
The celebration marks six decades since Ghana moved from the British West African pound to its own national currency, the Cedi, in 1965.
