The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has issued a directive to all unlicensed mortuaries and funeral facilities, both public and private to regularise their operations within one week from the date of its notice.
In a statement, the Agency expressed concern over the continued operations of several mortuaries and funeral facilities without the requisite licences, in violation of Section 55 of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).
The law stipulates that any person who operates a facility without proper registration or licensing commits an offence and is liable to a fine or the temporary or permanent closure of the facility.
MoFFA cautioned that any facility that fails to comply with the directive within the given timeframe risks being shut down.
The Agency reiterated its mandate to license, control, and regulate all establishments involved in the storage, transportation, and disposal of human remains.
