Two police officers have been treated and discharged from the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi in the Eastern region following violent clashes between police and angry youth after the death of a suspect, identified as Bright, while in custody.
Reinforcement teams from the Eastern Regional Police Counter Terrorism Unit, deployed to support colleagues from the Akyem Tafo Division, were met with hostility as residents pelted them with stones.
During the chaos, the windshields of a Toyota Tundra (registration number GP 4004) and the official Toyota Hilux of the Eastern Regional Police Operations Commander were smashed.

The two injured officers sustained eye injuries from the attack, received medical care at the Community Hospital, and were later discharged.

The irate youth accused a police officer of allegedly beating the suspect after he arrested him in a swoop and found substances suspected to be Indian hemp on him.
Angered by the action of the police officer whose name was only given as Kumador, the youth besieged the station in their numbers and demanded answers for the death of the suspect.
However, reports say officers on duty fled the station during the attack.
