The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) and the Technical University Workers Association-Ghana (TUWAG) have clarified that they are not part of any ongoing or planned industrial action by education sector workers and have directed their members to remain at post.
In a joint press statement issued on Friday, September 19, 2025, the two unions explained that the concerns driving potential strike actions are specific to pre-tertiary education workers under the Ghana Education Service (GES) and do not affect staff of public universities and technical universities.
They stated that they are currently engaged in “constructive dialogue” with government and other relevant stakeholders to address conditions of service for their members and are optimistic about favourable outcomes.
“We categorically instruct our members to disregard any information regarding strike actions by pre-tertiary unions, as these actions do not impact TEWU-GH and TUWAG or their membership in traditional public universities and technical universities,” the statement said.
The unions reiterated that members are expected to continue discharging their official duties while leadership continues negotiations on their behalf.
