Leader of the oil marketing industry, Star Oil, paid GHC 2.6 billion in taxes and levies to the government in 2025.
The announcement was captured in a post on Star Oil’s social media page today, January 14, 2026.
The data also showed that Star Oil paid GHC 41 million in corporate income tax on its operations in 2025.
In terms of withholding tax and PAYE, the oil marketing firm stated that it advanced GHC 51.9 million to the state, as well as GHC 1.7 billion in customs duties on fuel.
Operational Performance
Star Oil also announced that in 2025 it sold 819 million volumes of petroleum products, with the number of filling stations pegged at 254.
The number of people employed by Star Oil stood at 2,714.
In terms of its share of the retail market, the firm put it at 14 percent at the end of 2025.
In December 2025, Star Oil also announced that it sold 82 million litres of petroleum products across its 254 stations, a development the company said helped it maintain its position as a major supplier of diesel, gasoline and LPG in Ghana.
Market Performance
In June 2025, data from the National Petroleum Authority confirmed that Star Oil had consolidated the gains made in 2024 to emerge as the market leader for the first five months of 2025 in petroleum product sales.
The company officially overtook state owned GOIL, which had long held the top position.
The NPA’s Oil Marketing Company performance statistics from January to May showed that Star Oil sold a total of 336.3 million litres of petroleum products.
Data seen by Joy Business indicated that Star Oil sold 403 million litres of petroleum products in the first half of the year, comprising 193.9 million litres of petrol and 139.3 million litres of diesel.
An update released by the company on November 3, 2025, revealed that between January and September 2025, Star Oil sold 602 million litres of petroleum products, consolidating its position as the industry leader.
According to its published financials for the first half of 2025, Star Oil paid GH₵1.1 billion in taxes to the government and employs 2,546 direct staff across its 240 fuel stations nationwide.
