The Chief of Nsuta in the Ashanti region, Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere, has expressed cautious optimism in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), indicating that early signs of governance under President John Dramani Mahama have inspired confidence among residents of the area.
Speaking at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo in the Sekyere Central District during a visit by the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the traditional leader noted visible improvements in infrastructure, particularly ongoing work on the Nsuta–Kwamang road.
He observed that the presence of road construction equipment and machinery on site had brought relief to residents, describing it as a clear indication that the government was responding to long-standing concerns in the area.
The Nsuta Manhene also pointed to a growing sense of calm across the country since the NDC assumed office, noting that national conditions appeared to be stabilising, with several aspects of governance gradually falling into place.
Despite these early gains, he highlighted persistent challenges, especially with critical road networks that support agriculture.
He drew attention to the Birim road, describing it as vital to the local economy but largely unusable during the rainy season, a situation that continues to disrupt the transportation of farm produce and forces farmers to relocate their produce to Ejura.
He therefore urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of such key roads, reminding the NDC of its campaign commitments to the people of the area and expressing confidence that those promises would be fulfilled.
The visit formed part of Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s three-day Ashanti Regional “Thank You Tour” following the party’s victory in the 2024 general election.
Addressing party supporters and traditional authorities, the NDC chairman acknowledged the crucial role played by chiefs, clergy and grassroots supporters in securing the party’s electoral success.
He noted that the 2024 campaign was driven by widespread concern among Ghanaians about the direction of the country, which ultimately led to a collective push for political change.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia explained that the NDC’s strategy included an intensified campaign in the Ashanti Region, traditionally considered a difficult terrain for the party.
By engaging communities across all districts, he said, the party was able to significantly improve its performance, increasing its vote share to above 30 percent and securing eight parliamentary seats—its strongest showing in the region to date.
He stressed that the Ashanti Region remains pivotal to national electoral success and indicated that the NDC would maintain a consistent presence in the region to consolidate its gains.
Asiedu Nketia further assured residents that the party remains committed to honouring its promises, adding that the “Thank You Tour” would also serve as an opportunity for the party to assess its performance and identify areas requiring further attention.
While acknowledging the scale of challenges inherited by the government, he expressed confidence in the direction of the administration, pointing to ongoing development initiatives as evidence of progress.
He also called for unity within the party, urging members to avoid internal disputes and instead focus on strengthening the structures that delivered victory in 2024.
