The police have intercepted another arms and ammunition, which were being smuggled to Kpandai in the Northern Region from Accra.
On January 27, the police intercepted some bags, which contained guns and ammunition, even before they left Accra for their final destination in Kpandai.
With this latest operation, the Oti Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) intercepted a Kia Rhino with registration number GS-4677-17, which was loaded with boxes of ammunition and was on its way from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
Upon receipt of the information, the PID Director, ASP Maxwell Osafo-Adam, was accordingly informed, and he deployed a team that laid ambush for the vehicle.
On Sunday, February 8, at about 3:30 pm, the said Kia Rhino was intercepted by the team, and after a thorough search, one locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes made up of 525 pieces of Lion AAA and BB ammunition concealed under building materials were retrieved.
Two suspects, Abubakari Salam Atta, the driver of the vehicle, and his assistant, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, have since been arrested.
During interrogation, they claimed ownership of the said exhibit and have since been detained to assist in further investigations.
