As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, calls are growing for the party to extend its reach beyond its traditional support base.
Party unity and broader voter engagement are being highlighted as crucial to securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
Patrick Boamah, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, emphasised the need for a peaceful and transparent voting process, urging all members to rally behind the eventual winner.
He stressed that strengthening party structures and widening outreach will be key to appealing to voters outside the party’s core supporters.
“Having exercised our vote and elected our new flagbearer, it is most important to put in place the right structures to make the party very attractive to the ordinary Ghanaian. The NPP alone cannot win. We need the Ghanaian voter outside the NPP bracket to sympathise with our flagbearer, our parliamentary candidates, our message, our policies, and the programmes that we’ll be putting out there towards the 2028 general election,” he said.
Mr Boamah also wished all aspirants well and called on party members to cast their votes peacefully.
Speaking to Citi FM, the Okaikwei Central MP said, “Mine is to wish the aspirants the very best. That we come out of Saturday as a very united party with one purpose: to fight and win the next general election, regardless of who emerges as the candidate.”
