The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has paid a working visit to Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, praising the company’s commitment to safety, job creation and local manufacturing.
Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo, is a leading player in Ghana’s fast-moving consumer goods sector, producing popular household brands including Tasty Tom, NutriSnax, Royal King Cracker and Perk.
The company has operated in Ghana for nearly 15 years, developing brands tailored to local tastes and consumer needs.
During the visit, the Minister toured the company’s manufacturing facility at the Tema Industrial Area, which produces Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix.
The plant is recognised as the largest tomato-based processing and canning facility in West Africa.
Dr Pelpuo commended Nutrifoods for its strong focus on consumer and workplace safety, noting the company’s record of more than 14 years without any lost time due to accidents. He also praised the firm for operating a 24-hour shift system in line with government’s 24-hour economy policy, as well as its contribution to employment and economic growth.
Addressing the media, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of products manufactured by the company and highlighted the significance of producing homegrown brands locally. “I am impressed that the company is well established here and the products are made here by Ghanaians,” he said.
He added that interactions with management and staff showed a healthy labour relations environment, with strong compliance with occupational safety and health standards and labour laws. According to him, government views the private sector as a key partner in tackling unemployment and remains committed to supporting the growth of a robust private sector.
The Managing Director and Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, Mr Jay Anjaria, said the company employs nearly 2,000 people and continues to invest in building local intellectual and technical capacity in line with international manufacturing standards.
He noted that Nutrifoods Ghana has been recognised as a Top Employer in Ghana and Africa for five consecutive years by the Top Employers Institute, reflecting its strong people-focused practices, emphasis on employee development and inclusive work culture.
