The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has urged the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to suspend its nationwide strike, highlighting the government’s commitment to resolving the union’s concerns through constructive dialogue.
The indefinite industrial action, which began on Monday, March 9, was initiated by CLOGSAG members over delayed implementation of a revised salary structure and improved conditions of service.
Mr Pelpuo stressed that the government has proactively engaged relevant institutions, including the National Labour Commission and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, to maintain continuous discussions with the association.
He emphasised that industrial action at this stage is unnecessary, given the channels of communication already in place to address the union’s grievances.
“The government is fully prepared to engage and resolve these matters. A strike should be a last resort when dialogue has completely failed. We are listening, we are willing to talk, and we are urging CLOGSAG to reconsider the industrial action while we continue discussions,” he said.
The minister added that maintaining a cooperative relationship between the government and public service workers is crucial for national development and effective service delivery.
Speaking on Citi FM on Monday, March 9, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo reiterated the call for the association to temporarily suspend the strike, urging members to prioritise dialogue over confrontation while the government works towards a swift resolution.
