Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has pushed back against accusations that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is failing to spend adequately, insisting that current expenditure levels reflect responsible and disciplined fiscal management.
Amid renewed public scrutiny over government spending patterns and persistent revenue gaps, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu argued that criticisms—especially from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)—misrepresent the government’s approach to managing the economy.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 9, he drew comparisons between the present administration and its predecessor.
According to him, while both governments encountered revenue shortfalls, the NDC administration has adopted a more restrained and accountable spending strategy.
“He is operating within the limits he set for himself,” he said, referring to the Finance Minister. “Under the NPP, whenever revenue fell, expenditure was still allowed to balloon.”
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu insisted that government spending is ongoing but deliberately measured.
He added that the Finance Minister had already outlined expenditure cuts in response to lower-than-expected revenue, demonstrating that the government is committed to maintaining fiscal discipline.
