The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has warned that rising personal interests within the party are threatening its unity and long-term stability.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Kodua expressed concern that many members are prioritising individual ambitions over the collective good of the NPP.
“Currently, the personal interests are too much. Instead of collectively serving the elephant party, people are pursuing one interest or another—focusing on who they want to become flagbearer, fighting for positions, or even planning to oust the General Secretary,” he lamented.
He emphasised that such conduct distracts from the party’s core mission and risks undermining the structures established by its founding fathers.
“The people we are rooting for to be flagbearers may win or lose. They may even leave and forget about us. But the party will remain, and that is what we must work hard to protect,” he noted.
He called on all organs of the NPP, including the National Council, Council of Elders, MPs, and other officers, to speak up when issues arise rather than leaving the responsibility solely to him.
“It is important for everyone in the party to speak up when things are not going well because what is wrong is wrong and what is right is right. If you remain quiet, it implies you support what is happening,” he said.
While acknowledging that the party is in a “difficult situation,” he insisted he will continue to play his part by speaking the truth, whether it earns him praise or criticism.
“I don’t care if someone likes or hates me. It is part of the hazards of the job. Posterity will judge us all,” he added.
