Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to be intimidated by what he describes as possible political harassment and arrests under an NDC government.
He made the remarks while speaking at an NPP thanksgiving service held after the election of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.
Addressing party colleagues, Mr Afenyo-Markin warned that attempts could be made to divide the party through intimidation tactics, including arrests.
“Colleagues, they will try and divide us. They will come with all manner of arrest. Now and then, when their back is against the wall, they will come with all manner of arrest,” he stated.
The Minority Leader encouraged NPP members to remain resolute and united, stressing that being arrested as a politician should not be seen as a disgrace.
“Please, if you are a politician and you are being caught, it is not a sin. Let’s stand firm behind Dr Bawumia and win power in 2028. Don’t let them intimidate you with arrest,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin’s comments come amid heightened political tensions as parties position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
He called on party supporters to stay focused on the NPP’s long-term goal of returning to power, urging them to remain loyal to Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
The Thanksgiving service brought together party executives, supporters and parliamentary caucus members to celebrate the flagbearer’s victory and renew commitment towards the 2028 elections.
