Investigations are underway to determine the cause of Tuesday’s structural collapse at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre in Accra, which left 14 construction workers injured.
The incident involved a three-storey building under construction, reportedly being undertaken by Fabrico Builders, located between a 10-storey high-rise apartment and the Ghana Institute of Engineering at Roman Ridge.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 12:18 p.m. and immediately dispatched a rescue team from its National Headquarters, led by Assistant Divisional Officer II Ankrah, to the scene. The team arrived at 12:29 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that all 14 affected persons, all male construction workers, had already been rescued and transported to the 37 Military Hospital and the Ridge Hospital for emergency medical care.
Eyewitnesses told officials that the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, though no fatalities have been recorded so far.
The GNFS says the cause of the collapse remains unclear, but a technical investigation is ongoing to determine whether the project met structural and safety requirements.
The site manager has been instructed to halt all construction activities until the investigation is completed and to take corrective steps to ensure full compliance with safety regulations.
