The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a curfew on Bole Township and its surrounding communities in the Savannah Region following renewed chieftaincy tensions that have raised security concerns in the area.
According to a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the curfew will run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am each day, starting Wednesday, August 27, until further notice.
The Minister explained that the decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and effected through an Executive Instrument.
“Government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement said.
The Ministry also outlined strict measures that residents are expected to observe during the curfew. These include a total ban on carrying firearms, ammunition, or offensive weapons, with offenders warned that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
In addition, riding in pairs or groups on motorbikes has been prohibited, while the wearing of war regalia has also been banned throughout the day.
The decision follows recent land dispute issues that have triggered security threats in the area.
