Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has insisted he has no plans to quit the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite ongoing processes to remove him from the party.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described certain elements within the party as “fake” and accused them of undermining the NPP, arguing that they, not he, should leave.
“I am not leaving the party,” he stated. “They should leave the party. They are the fake ones. They should go away, and the true party will stand.”
The remarks come amid reports that the NPP has begun steps to expel him following his public criticisms of the party’s internal practices and direction.
Earlier, on January 12, 2026, during an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng referred to the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer considers himself a member.
He also alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah issued a statement describing Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments as “highly reprehensible” and contrary to the party’s values, integrity, and unity. The statement added that the NPP strongly rejects the description of the party as “fake” and dismissed the claims of rigging as unsubstantiated.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, however, maintained that his criticisms stem from a desire to uphold the party’s founding ideals.
He noted that his commitment is to the principles on which the NPP was built, not to personalities he believes are currently undermining them.
