President John Mahama has reiterated that decent and affordable housing remains a central pillar of his government’s reset agenda.
According to him, access to housing must not be a privilege for a few, but a fundamental expression of human dignity for all Ghanaians.
The President made the remarks in Ho on Wednesday, December 17, during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a smart city project, known as the Oxygen City, near the Ho airport, under the auspices of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC).
“Housing is one of the clearest measures of a society’s progress. A safe, decent home is not a privilege for a few but a fundamental human requirement for human dignity, economic productivity, social stability and national cohesion, and that is why housing occupies a central place in our reset agenda,” he added.
According to Mr Mahama, the housing deficit in the country requires deliberate and sustained policy interventions, adding that his administration is determined to reposition housing delivery as a core social responsibility of the state.

He noted that the Oxygen City project forms part of a broader strategy to expand access to affordable housing, promote planned urban development and improve living standards, particularly for all across the country.
“Development must not remain concentrated in a few enclaves. Our national objective is clear: growth must be regional, it must be equitable, and it must be purposeful.”
The project is expected to combine modern infrastructure with smart planning concepts, contributing to job creation and economic activity while addressing Ghana’s growing housing needs.
