The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Eric Stanley Acquah, has assured that the long-awaited Ewoyaa Lithium Project will be ratified by Parliament before the end of the year.
Speaking on JoyNews AM Show, Mr. Acquah addressed concerns over compensation for residents affected by the project, explaining the steps being taken to ensure transparency.
“I have spoken to the General Manager and the person chairing the compensation committee. After my engagement, I intend to consult the Omanhene. He forms part of the discussions under the committee, because I cannot, offhand, give the exact amount stipulated or which category applies to each affected person,” he said.
“All that I can say is that it hinges on ratification. So I’m quoting him this morning: when I got the proud notification from your station that I would be engaged, I had to speak with my MP, and he gave me his firm assurance that I should quote him by his own words—that before this year gets to an end, we will see the Ewoyaa Lithium Project ratified by Parliament,” he added.
The MCE’s remarks come amid growing public concern over delays in the project, which had initially raised high expectations for job creation, economic growth, and increased foreign investment in the region.
Mr. Acquah urged residents to remain patient, assuring that all efforts are being made to fast-track the ratification process and ensure that affected communities receive fair compensation.
