One of the five flagbearer aspirants of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bryan Acheampong, has identified the Eastern Region as the party’s best-performing region in the 2024 general elections.
According to Mr Acheampong, the region delivered the highest electoral returns for the NPP nationwide, winning 24 out of the 25 parliamentary constituencies contested.
“The best-performing region in the last election was the Eastern Region. We went into the election with 25 parliamentary candidates and came out with 24. No other region performed better in terms of the parliamentary seats we were able to retain,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express and reiterated on Pulse on Tuesday, December 23.
He noted that the result underscored the continued loyalty of voters in the region to the NPP, despite the party’s broader defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Acheampong, who is seeking to lead the party as its next flagbearer, said the Eastern Region’s performance offers important lessons as the NPP rebuilds ahead of future elections. He also alluded to his role in the party’s performance in the region.
“Politically, I am known to stand for something,” he said.
He added that if given the mandate, he would work to rebuild the party and lead it to victory in the 2028 general elections.
