The Dr. K.B. Tandoh Outreach, a non-profit organisation founded by former Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, has donated essential medical supplies to the Goaso Government Hospital and reading materials to selected schools in Goaso and Fawohoyeden in the Ahafo Region.
The presentation ceremony, held on Tuesday at the forecourt of the hospital’s administration block, was attended by hospital administrators, medical staff, family and friends, as well as youth and women’s groups.
Goaso Government Hospital, the only referral facility in the region, received boxes of surgical and examination gloves, antiseptics, detergents, and tissues.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr. James Ankomah, Dr. Prince Kofi Dwomoh Kesse expressed gratitude for the gesture and called for stronger collaboration between the hospital and the outreach.
He noted that the donation came at a crucial time and would significantly ease the hospital’s logistical challenges and reduce the financial burden on patients.
Dr. Tandoh, in his address, announced plans to initiate the process for constructing a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the hospital.
“It is my belief that this modest donation will go a long way to enhance hygiene protocols, positively impact patient care, and relieve the burden on the facility’s financial obligations,” he said.
The event concluded with a tour of the hospital’s maternity ward.
Promoting Reading and Learning
In a related effort, the Dr. K.B. Tandoh Outreach donated 2,000 reading materials to selected basic schools in Goaso and a private school in Fawohoyeden.
The books, which covered English, basic arithmetic, information technology, science, history, dictionaries, storybooks, and teaching aids, were aimed at boosting literacy and improving learning outcomes.
Speaking at the presentation, held at Goaso Methodist Primary School, Headteacher Madam Linda Berchie praised the initiative and its potential impact on education.
“A good and well-stocked library is essential for improving learning outcomes. I’m hopeful these books will open a world of imagination and knowledge for these little ones in our schools and communities. We will ensure the pupils cultivate the habit of reading, which is necessary for academic excellence,” she said.
Beneficiary schools included Methodist Basic School, Islamic Basic School, Presbyterian A&B Basic Schools, Roman Catholic A&B Basic Schools in Goaso, and Lawrence Montessori School in Fawohoyeden in the Asunafo North Municipality.
Dr. Tandoh explained that the initiative was driven by his passion for promoting reading among children to achieve academic excellence. He reaffirmed the outreach’s commitment to supporting deprived communities and health facilities across the municipality.
