President John Dramani Mahama has called for greater inclusion of developing countries in global decision-making processes, stressing that the legitimacy and effectiveness of international governance depend on fairness, equity and broad representation.
Speaking at the World Governments Summit at Dubai, President Mahama said the credibility of global governance rests on fairness, describing it as the cornerstone of trust among nations.
He argued that international institutions must evolve to become more representative, responsive and equitable, particularly in the way global rules are formulated and enforced.
“Developing nations must have a stronger voice in shaping the rules governing trade, finance, climate action and peacekeeping,” he stated.
President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to an international order anchored in dialogue rather than confrontation, cooperation rather than isolation, rules rather than coercion, and shared progress rather than zero-sum rivalry.
He also highlighted Ghana’s approach to foreign relations, noting that the country’s partnerships — including those with nations in the Gulf region — are grounded in economic diplomacy that prioritises development, investment and opportunities for citizens.
The President stressed that Ghana will continue to work with like-minded partners to strengthen multilateral cooperation and promote a fairer, more inclusive global order.
