The Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Yeboah, has unveiled a transformative vision for the network, setting a collective goal for every CHAG facility to achieve at least a Level 3 rating under the SafeCare quality standards.
This ambitious target was announced as CHAG formally assumed leadership of the quality improvement programme from its long-term partner, the PharmAccess Foundation.
“We have embraced the mission that every CHAG facility will aspire to be at least Level Three or Level Four, working towards Level Five. We see this as a fundamental characteristic of our identity and our commitment to the communities we serve,” Dr. Yeboah stated.
The collective goal establishes a new target for quality across one of Ghana’s largest faith-based health providers, which serves many remote and underserved communities. The SafeCare programme is a globally-benchmarked methodology that provides a structured pathway for healthcare facilities to improve quality, patient safety and operational processes. A Level 3 rating signifies a standardised, well-documented,and effectively managed level of care.
This new chapter builds on a strong foundation of partnership. Dr. Yeboah revealed that 39 CHAG facilities have already achieved a SafeCare Level Four rating, with over 91 others demonstrating significant improvement. The transition to local leadership is seen as the next natural step to ensure these gains are deepened and expanded across the entire network.
The move is driven by a shared vision for sustainability, greater scalability to ensure equitable care in remote areas, and deeper local ownership to energise the programme for the long term.
To bring this vision to life, CHAG plans to fully embed the SafeCare methodology into its core operations, integrating it into performance reviews, internal audits and strategic planning to support all member facilities in their quality journey.
By championing this elevated standard, CHAG aims to become a beacon for a self-sustaining, high-quality, faith-based health system, reinforcing that access to dignified and effective healthcare is a right for all Ghanaians.
