Former Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has described Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of Ghana, as the most widely promoted and recognised political figure in the country after President John Mahama.
He made the remarks during an interview on JoyNews’ AM show on Wednesday, January 21, highlighting the visibility and influence of Dr Bawumia ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer primaries.
“Dr Bawumia has consistently been in the public eye, with his policies, ideas, and projects marketed to Ghanaians across all regions. Only President Mahama has had comparable visibility in recent times,” Farouk Aliu Mahama said.
“This widespread recognition gives him a distinct advantage among party delegates and the electorate.”
He further noted that Dr Bawumia’s visibility is not just about public appearances but the substance of his work.
“What sets him apart is that he is marketed based on tangible achievements and a clear vision for the country. His track record as Vice President and as a 2024 presidential candidate resonates with both party faithful and ordinary citizens,” he explained.
Speaking on the upcoming NPP primaries, Farouk Aliu Mahama urged party delegates to consider both competence and public appeal when choosing a candidate.
“It is not just about loyalty to a faction; it is about who can lead the party to victory. Dr Bawumia’s ability to connect with people, communicate policies effectively, and inspire confidence makes him the standout candidate,” he said.
He concluded by stressing the importance of unity behind a capable leader. “The delegates have a responsibility to select a candidate who embodies competence, vision, and national appeal. Dr Bawumia ticks all these boxes, and I am confident he will secure overwhelming support in the primaries,” Farouk Aliu Mahama added.
