The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ahanta West in the Western region, Hon. Ing. Ebenezer Aidoo, has led a joint security operation with personnel from the National Security and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal mining activities (galamsey) in the municipality.

Speaking after the operation, Hon. Aidoo stressed the devastating effects of galamsey on the environment and local communities, calling for united action to confront the menace.

“The ripple effect of galamsey is enormous. We must all come together to fight this devastating calamity,” he said.
According to him, the task force conducted a deep-forest raid within the Cape Three Points Forest, where seven individuals were arrested.

More than ten “chamfa” machines, popularly known as one leg, were also destroyed, dealing a significant blow to illegal mining operations in the area.

Hon. Aidoo reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the environment and enforcing the law, describing the operation as a clear demonstration of his resolve as MCE.

He further revealed that pragmatic measures are being rolled out to strengthen community safety and promote long-term environmental sustainability in the municipality.
