The Afro-Arab Group has officially launched its Work-and-Pay Electric Vehicle (EV) Programme, delivering on a pledge to create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs through the deployment of 1,000 electric vehicles nationwide.
The initiative was unveiled on Monday, 23rd February 2026, at the Group’s headquarters in Kokomlemle, Accra, where the first batch of 50 electric vehicles was handed over to beneficiaries. Organisers assured stakeholders that the remaining 950 vehicles would be delivered in phases within the shortest possible timeframe.
The programme was launched by George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of Imperial General Insurance, Republic Bank Ghana and AETS Ghana, underscoring a broad-based partnership model underpinning the project.
In his address, Chairman of the Group, Alhaji Salamu Amadu, described unemployment as a persistent challenge to Ghana’s socio-economic progress. He noted that the Work-and-Pay EV scheme is designed as a practical intervention to expand income-generating opportunities, particularly for young people.
He reiterated that the programme aligns with the Group’s wider strategy to promote innovation, enhance livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to national development through inclusive and impact-driven initiatives.
According to the organisers, the Work-and-Pay model enables beneficiaries to operate the vehicles under structured payment arrangements, allowing them to earn a living while gradually taking ownership of the assets.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the Afro-Arab Group, positioning the EV programme as a flagship intervention aimed at fostering sustainable employment and advancing environmentally conscious transport solutions in Ghana.
