Francis Xavier-Sosu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, has said that the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, should be allowed to carry out his duties as opposition leader.
“He (Alexander Afenyo-Markin) is a great guy. He is a great politician. I believe that he is doing the Lord’s work, and he must be allowed to do his work. He is the opposition leader; he must oppose, we must allow him to do his work,” the Madina MP said on JoyPrime Morning Show in an interview on Wednesday.
Mr Xavier-Sosu, however, emphasised that the parliamentary majority will ensure that Afenyo-Markin operates within the confines of the law. “Except that as people who are in a commanding majority now, we are also bound to use the rules, to regulate how he does his work, so do your job, but we will ensure that he will do it within the limits of the law.”
Mr Xavier-Sosu added that Mr Afenyo-Markin is a very good friend, but at times his behaviour overshadows his positive qualities.
“Afenyo is one of my mentors who sometimes overrides, throws away all the mentorship things that he teaches me… but he is a very good friend.”
His remarks came amid discussions on the Minority Leader’s conduct during the vetting of the Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, on Tuesday.
