The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to vet Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Information sighted by the Ghana News Agency in the Order Paper for the fifth sitting of the Third Meeting of Parliament on Tuesday, October 28, indicates that the vetting session will take place at 11:00 hours at the Parliament House, Accra.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama, and his appointment is subject to parliamentary approval as required by the Constitution.
The nominee’s qualifications, experience, and suitability for the position will be assessed during the vetting process.
Speaker Alban Bagbin emphasised the importance of the vetting process in ensuring public confidence in the Judiciary and said, “We trust that this process will be carried out in accordance with the laws of our country.”
If confirmed, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will succeed Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was suspended and subsequently removed from office.
Notably, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has been acting in the role since April 2025 and is known for his long and distinguished judicial career, having served at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
The Appointments Committee will present its report to the plenary for consideration after the vetting.
