The Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono East Region, Thomas Masud Ayarba, has urged Basic Schools to do more and instill cultural and traditional values in the minds of schoolchildren.
He said culture and tradition reflected the true identity of the people, and culture would shape the mindset of children and thereby help mould them more responsibly.
Mr. Ayarba gave the advice when speaking at the inter-zonal culture fiesta for basic schools, organised by the Culture Department of the Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Directorate of Education at Atebubu.
It was on the theme “The role of culture in strengthening peace and unity in Ghana.”
The festival was aimed at selecting finalists for the upcoming inter-district culture competition for Basic School to be held at Techiman, the Bono Regional capital.
Mr. Ayarba said the Assembly remained committed to supporting and helping preserve the diverse cultural heritage of the people, saying it behoved Basic Schools to also promote cultural activities.
He commended the education directorate for the event and the teachers for preparing the schools adequately to participate and win the district competition.
The Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Director of Education, Isaac Budu, also commended the organisers for the event and lauded the active participation of the schools, including private ones.
The Atebubu/Amantin Municipal Cultural Coordinator, Felix Acheampong, also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support, saying the culture department required financial and logistical support to promote cultural activities.
The participating basic schools engaged in choral music, poetry recitals, drum language, drama and dance, sight singing, and sewing and cooking, among others.
