Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati has admitted he is struggling to put into words what went wrong after failing to progress from his men’s 100m heat at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Speaking to Sporty FM after the race on Saturday afternoon, Azamati said he had arrived at the championships full of confidence and with good form behind him.
“There’s nothing to describe it to be honest with you. After finally ending up here, I have been very confident. I have run under more stress than this; I’ve been to Europe and even leading up to here, I have run 10:02 or 10:05s about a month ago,” he explained.
The former Ghana’s 100m record holder, who finished sixth in his heat with a time of 10.30s, admitted he was lost for words after the performance.
“To be honest with you, I can’t find the words for it, for what just happened, but it is what it is and there’re no excuses to make up for it to be honest with you,” he said.
Addressing suggestions that he looked uncomfortable during the race, the 26-year-old sprinter admitted to experiencing some issues before his run but refused to use them as an excuse.
“I don’t have to talk about it right now because it’s going to sound like making excuses… I am not that kind of person. But even prior to warming up, I had some few hitches there. But like I said, some of these things, you don’t really have to talk about it,” he noted.
Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of regrouping and preparing for the future. “We came here and it didn’t go as planned so we have to go back and try again,” he concluded.
