The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it has started registering Ghanaian children between the ages of 6 and 14 years at all its premium centres across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, by the Head of Corporate Affairs Directorate at NIA, Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, the Authority said the move is in line with its legal duty “to register all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, and to ensure that every citizen has a secure and verifiable national identity.”
It explained that the initiative “marks another step forward in building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures every Ghanaian from childhood.”
Registration Fees and Requirements
The NIA stated that the fee for first-time registration at premium centres is GHS 310, which is consistent with the approved charges for premium services.
Requirements for registration remain the same as those for applicants aged 15 years and above. Parents or legal guardians are required to present one of the following documents:
- A valid Ghanaian passport of the child; OR
- The original copy of the child’s birth certificate; OR
- A Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.
Online Registration and Booking System
The Authority also announced that from Monday, 15th September 2025, the online registration and booking system will be expanded to cover all 11 remaining premium centres nationwide.
“This will provide applicants with convenience in scheduling appointments,” the statement said. Applicants are encouraged to use the online appointment booking system to ensure a smooth and timely process at the premium centres.
Issuance of Cards and Future Services
The NIA assured the public that those already registered under this new category will soon receive their Ghana Cards.
“The Authority will also announce, in the coming weeks, the extension of this registration service to all NIA District Offices nationwide to expand access for applicants across the country,” the release added.
