Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has revealed that some companies awarded sole-sourced contracts under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme have minimal staffing capacity.
He disclosed this on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March.
Drawing from contract documents provided by the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Braimah noted,
“One of the companies awarded sole-sourced Big Push contracts has four workers; another has one worker.”
The figures were obtained directly from the Ministry’s Big Push Master Register.
He clarified that the recent report by The Fourth Estate, a project of MFWA, which highlighted concerns over sole-sourced contracts, was based on these official records.
The Fourth Estate had initially requested access to the documents under the Right to Information Act but was denied, necessitating an appeal to obtain them.
Mr Braimah also confirmed that the media project reached out to other agencies, including the Ghana Highways Authority, to verify contract details, underscoring the investigative approach used to compile the report.
