Residents and businesses in parts of the Tema Metropolis should brace for a scheduled power interruption today, Sunday, 8th March 2026, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) initiates critical infrastructure maintenance.
The utility provider has confirmed that the four-hour exercise is part of a strategic drive to bolster the quality and reliability of electricity delivery across the Tema enclave.
Affected areas and timing
The technical shutdown is slated to take place between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. According to the official notice released on Thursday, 5th March, 2026, the interruption will primarily impact customers within the following enclaves:
- McKeon
- Sky Quarries
- Westrafo
- Immediate surrounding localities
Preemptive measures for network stability
The ECG has acknowledged the strain that these service gaps place on local domestic and commercial operations. In its public notice, the company extended apologies to the affected public, stressing that the maintenance is vital to prevent more severe system failures.
“The company has assured the public that the exercises are necessary to preempt more significant system failures and to ensure the long-term stability of the power network in the region.”
These technical interventions are essential to long-term operational health, urging residents to prepare for the temporary downtime.
As the Tema Metropolis continues to experience industrial and commercial growth, the ECG maintains that such upgrades are a requisite component of sustaining the city’s power demands.
