The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikplim Akurugu, has officially broken ground for the construction of the 5.2-kilometre Narhman-Musuku road, marking what residents describe as a historic milestone for the area.
The project, which will see the untarred stretch transformed into a modern asphalted roadway, also includes the reshaping of the Grand Star Hotel road in Narhman.
For years, residents and motorists have battled heavy dust during the dry season and muddy conditions when it rains.
Before the sod-cutting ceremony, Mrs. Akurugu paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Narhman area to pay homage and formally seek permission to commence the project.
The Chief granted his approval and commended her commitment to development in the constituency. He further encouraged her to continue working hard to improve infrastructure across Dome-Kwabenya.
Speaking to the media, Mrs. Akurugu said the project marks an important milestone for the community and will significantly improve transportation and economic activity in the area.
“This is not just about tar and gravel, it is about connecting our people, improving transportation, boosting local businesses, and restoring dignity to residents who have endured years of dust and mud. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Narhman and Musuku.” She said.
She added that the project forms part of her broader vision to improve road networks and stimulate economic growth within Dome-Kwabenya.
“Development must be felt by the people. Good roads mean easier access to schools, markets, health facilities, and new opportunities,” she emphasized.
The contractor in charge of the project assured residents of quality and timely delivery. In an interview, the project engineer noted, “We are committed to delivering a durable asphalt road that will meet modern engineering standards. Work will begin immediately, and we will ensure minimal disruption to residents while construction progresses.”
Residents who attended the ceremony expressed excitement and optimism, describing the initiative as long overdue.
With construction set to commence, many believe the Narhman- Musuku road project signals renewed hope and tangible development for the people of Dome-Kwabenya.
