NPP wants to mar the beauty of the voting process, NDC not involved in violence - Tanko Computer

Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of entering the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun with intention to disrupt the electoral process rather than engage in a fair contest.

Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews, Mr. Tanko said the voting had so far been smooth, but claimed intelligence gathered by the NDC pointed to deliberate attempts by the NPP to undermine the process.

“Everything is going on smoothly. Like I told you this morning, as of yesterday, we knew that the NPP is coming into this election not to contest, but to mar the beauty of the rerun – just to mar the whole process. That is what their intention is.”

He raised concerns over what he described as unnecessary spending by the NPP candidate, questioning the sudden mobilization of large sums of money shortly before the polls.

“Look, as of yesterday evening-less than 12 hours to the election—she [the NPP candidate] mobilized not less than one million Ghana cedis. What is she going to use the money for? Your guess is as good as mine.”

“People who have defied the orders of their national executive are being beaten here and there. Intelligence we picked shows that their own party people are beating them because they disobeyed party orders and decided to contest.”

He was quick to distance the NDC from any such acts of violence, insisting that their members had conducted themselves in a disciplined and lawful manner throughout the election.

“All our party people, I can assure you, are disciplined. They know what is expected of them because we are winning the seat. That is why we’ve put these things together.”

He emphasized that any disruptions reported at polling stations were likely a result of internal NPP tensions, not the actions of the NDC.

“ I know the NDC is not involved in this at all.”
