Ghana and Zambia have reinforced their bilateral relations with the signing of ten Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during President John Dramani Mahama’s three-day state visit to Lusaka.
The agreements, signed in the presence of senior government officials from both countries, are aimed at strengthening cooperation across key sectors including trade, security, health, governance and people-to-people exchanges.
The MoUs signed include cooperation on diaspora engagement between the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Ghana; cooperation in disaster risk management; institutional collaboration between the Zambia Development Agency and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority; and standardisation and conformity assessment between the Zambia Bureau of Standards and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Also signed were agreements on the waiver of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official/service and ordinary passports; an addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding on military defence cooperation; and the Rules of Procedure for the Joint Defence Implementation Committee.
The remaining agreements cover the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of Zambia; cooperation in the field of health; and regulatory collaboration between the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority and Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority.
The signing of the MoUs underscores the shared commitment of Ghana and Zambia to deepening economic ties, enhancing mobility, strengthening security cooperation and advancing broader Pan-African integration.
