
The Executive Secretary (ES) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Shafic Suleman, has concluded a regional tour of the Commission’s offices and utility service providers in Bono East, aimed at strengthening collaboration, identifying challenges, and finding practical solutions for efficient regulation.
The tour, which ended on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, provided first-hand insights into the operations of the Commission’s regional office and key utility companies in the area.

Addressing staff of the Bono East Regional Office, Dr Suleman urged them to uphold professionalism and teamwork to enhance the Commission’s reputation and service delivery.

At the Techiman Area Office of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), management reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring consistent and quality electricity supply to consumers.
Mr John Mumuni Tayari, the Area Manager, highlighted recent system improvements, including line upgrades and network injections, while acknowledging ongoing challenges such as illegal meters, Self-Help Electrification Projects (SHEP) meters, and capacity constraints.

He commended the collaborative relationship between NEDCo and PURC, pledging to deepen the partnership to address sector challenges.

Dr Suleman, in response, called for continued cooperation and proactive measures to resolve issues confronting the utility sector.
The tour concluded with an inspection of a pro-poor mechanised borehole project at Bibiani in the Nkoranza South Municipality, which is set to be handed over to the beneficiary community soon.
The ES entourage included some Directors, management and staff of the PURC including Alhaji Jabaru Abukari, (Director of Regional Operations & Consumer Services), Ing. Emmanuel Fiati (Director of Water Services and Performance Monitoring), Dr Eric Obutey (Director of Research & Corporate Affairs), Ing. Frederick Oblitey (Director of Energy Services and Performance Monitoring), Mr Stephen Bryan of the Regional Operations Directorate, Mr Charles Biney of the Research & Corporate Affairs, Mr Reginald Osei Assibey of Finance Department, Mr Godfred Ennin and Ms. Fauzia Tanko from the ES Secretariat.
