The Ministry of the Interior, in partnership with the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, has announced a temporary suspension of the Ghanaian citizenship application process for historical diasporans.
In a statement released on Sunday, February 1, the two institutions explained that the pause is intended to allow for improvements aimed at streamlining the application process, making it more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly.
“The temporary suspension will provide the necessary time to refine the procedures and ensure a smoother experience for applicants once the process resumes,” the statement said.

The Ministry and the Diaspora Affairs Office reaffirmed their commitment to members of the global African community, emphasising that Ghana remains eager to welcome them home.
Revised timelines and updated guidelines for submitting citizenship applications will be communicated through official channels in due course, the statement added.
