Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has described the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate him as a clear affirmation of judicial integrity and the supremacy of the rule of law.
Speaking on PM Express on Joy News on Wednesday, Mr Nyindam said the 4–1 majority ruling by the apex court demonstrated that Ghana’s judiciary remains independent and committed to justice, regardless of political affiliation.
“The 4–1 decision I saw clearly tells me that the law is the law. And the Supreme Court judges have held the integrity of this country to the very highest,” he stated.
Mr Nyindam said the ruling reaffirmed his belief that justice in Ghana is accessible to all citizens, including those without political power or influence.
“Yes, I am from the opposition. Yes, I don’t have powers behind me. But they looked into my face, they looked into the case, and realised that this young man had a case,” he said.
He stressed that the judges were guided solely by the law and the evidence before them, rather than political considerations.
“They never decided to give it to the ruling government. That is integrity. That is sincerity,” he added.
The Kpandai MP further suggested that any attempt by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to seek a review of the ruling would be futile, urging party officials to focus instead on future elections.
According to him, the clarity of the Supreme Court’s decision leaves little room for further litigation.
Despite the NDC’s indication that it may pursue a review, Mr Nyindam expressed confidence that any further legal process would reach the same conclusion.
“If they decide to go for a review, I still believe that the justice I got today, I will get the same justice,” he said.
The Supreme Court, in a 4–1 majority decision, quashed the Tamale High Court ruling that had annulled Mr Nyindam’s election, citing jurisdictional error and restoring his mandate as Member of Parliament for Kpandai.
