The National Identification Authority (NIA) has stepped up efforts to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s national identity system by training officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on matters relating to the Ghana Card.
The one-day orientation and training programme was held on January 23, 2026, at the NIA Headquarters and targeted CID officers assigned to the Authority’s regional offices nationwide. The initiative is part of preparations to deploy CID officers to all 16 regions to support investigations connected to Ghana Card registration.
The session focused on NIA operations, policies on first-time issuance, record updates, and common infractions by applicants and staff. Participants were also briefed on investigative procedures, system integrations, and technical processes to help safeguard data integrity within the national identity ecosystem.
Officers who attended described the training as “practical, informative, and relevant,” noting that it equips them to better support regional investigations on identity registration and data protection.
In a related capacity-building initiative, the NIA also conducted a four-day ISO certification programme for its staff, covering Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and IT Service Management (ITSM). The training, conducted in four cohorts, aimed to strengthen internal operations and align staff practices with internationally recognised standards.
These programmes reflect the NIA’s broader commitment to operational excellence, institutional strengthening, and the provision of secure and reliable identity services to Ghanaians.
“This training ensures that our officers and staff are fully equipped to uphold the integrity of the Ghana Card system and protect the data of every citizen,” a senior NIA official said.
The initiative comes on the back of nationwide efforts to ensure smooth and secure Ghana Card registration, particularly as the Authority expands its services to support governance, law enforcement, and national planning.
