The Public Relations Manager of the Bui Power Authority (BPA), Mawuli Fui Kwadzovia, has called for immediate action to halt illegal small-scale mining activities along the upstream section of the Bui Power Plant.
His appeal follows the recent JoyNews Hotline documentary, which exposed the scale of galamsey operations threatening the facility.
Speaking to JoyNews on Monday, January 19, Mr Kwadzovia said the activities pose a serious risk to the safety and sustainability of the power plant.
“We need to take urgent action to raid all the illegal miners upstream of the Bui generating station,” he said.
He noted that the Authority is already working closely with relevant stakeholders, including the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), to address the situation.
“In the past, we have had some collaborations with the Ghana Army, the Navy and so on. Now, NAIMOS is the new task force, and we are collaborating with them.”
However, he stressed that urgent and decisive intervention is needed to bring the illegal activities to an end.
Mr Kwadzovia reiterated the BPA’s commitment to protecting the country’s energy infrastructure and called on all stakeholders to act swiftly to safeguard the Bui Power Plant.
