The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has carried out a series of fire safety education and inspection exercises in parts of the Greater Accra Region, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce fire outbreaks and promote safety awareness in public and commercial spaces.
The activities, which covered Nungua, Anyaa and Abehenase, focused on educating the public on fire prevention, emergency response and safe practices within homes, shops and public institutions.
At Nungua, the Lekma Fire Safety Team engaged shop owners on common fire hazards and preventive measures, with particular emphasis on the safe storage of flammable materials.
The team also demonstrated the correct use of fire extinguishers and outlined basic actions to take in the event of a fire emergency.
In Anyaa, Fire Safety Officers interacted with members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, providing education on fire prevention, proper use of fire extinguishers and emergency evacuation procedures. The engagement was aimed at improving preparedness and safety within places of worship.
Meanwhile, at Abehenase, the Amasaman Fire Safety Team conducted inspections and safety education for several commercial facilities, including shops, a pharmacy and a restaurant.
Officers identified potential fire hazards and advised operators on best practices to minimise risks.
The GNFS said the exercise underscores the importance of preparedness, vigilance and strict adherence to fire safety measures to protect lives and property across communities.
