The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly rejected claims by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, that its 2024 flagbearer election was manipulated, insisting the process was free, fair and transparent.
The party’s response follows comments by Prof Frimpong-Boateng in an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, 12 January, in which he alleged that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was skewed in favour of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said:
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary.”
According to the party, the primary that produced Dr Bawumia as its candidate for the 2024 general elections reflected the will of delegates nationwide.
The NPP stressed that the process had been widely accepted by all aspirants who participated.
“The said primary has been widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the Party, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” the statement added.
The party further described Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks as damaging to its unity and integrity, warning that such public accusations undermine internal cohesion.
