The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says preparations are on course for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, with key logistical, security and administrative arrangements nearing completion.
Speaking on Pulse on JoyNews, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, assured party supporters and the general public that the internal election process will be transparent, peaceful and credible.
According to him, the party’s National Elections Committee has concluded critical meetings with representatives of the presidential aspirants, and outstanding issues relating to the voters’ exhibition exercise are being resolved.
“Reports on missing names, missing pictures, misspelling of names and what have you — all these are being put together, and these will be concluded before copies are given to the presidential aspirants,” he said.
Mr Mohammed explained that once the final corrections are completed, the voters’ list will be printed and forwarded to the Electoral Commission (EC), which will supervise the primaries. He stressed that the EC, not the party, has identified all the venues for the elections.
“In terms of security, the Ghana Police Service has taken centre stage. No party security is going to be allowed,” he added.
He further disclosed that representatives of all presidential aspirants will be present during the printing of ballot papers and their subsequent dispatch, a measure he said is meant to ensure transparency and fairness.
“When the printing of ballots begins, all the aspirants’ representatives will be there. The dispatch will also be done clearly and transparently,” he noted.
Mr Mohammed expressed confidence that the party will deliver a peaceful contest.
“We are very confident that we are going to have a very clean election, a level playing field, and a very peaceful exercise on January 31, 2026,” he said.
