The Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) have jointly called for calm following public concerns over electricity tariff adjustments, assuring workers and the general public that structured stakeholder engagements remain ongoing.
In a joint statement, the two institutions acknowledged growing anxieties surrounding utility pricing, particularly its impact on workers and households, but stated that no unilateral decisions have been taken outside the established regulatory framework.
According to the statement, the PURC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and inclusiveness in the tariff-setting process, noting that labour unions remain key stakeholders whose views are being considered in line with the Commission’s statutory mandate.
The TUC, on its part, indicated that it has been actively engaging the PURC to ensure that the interests of workers are adequately protected, especially at a time when cost-of-living pressures remain high.
Both institutions stressed that tariff adjustments are guided by law and evidence-based assessments, including production costs, sustainability of utility service providers, and the need to maintain a reliable power supply for economic growth.
The joint statement further urged the public to rely on official communication and avoid misinformation, assuring that any final decisions would be communicated clearly and responsibly.
The TUC and PURC reiterated their shared commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and the protection of the public interest, pledging to continue engagements aimed at balancing affordability with the long-term stability of Ghana’s power sector.
