Veteran Nollywood actor Tony Umez is set to play a role in The Second Coming of Nkrumah – The Musical at the African Festival, scheduled for December 28 to 30 in Accra.
The three-day festival, organised by Globe Productions, is expected to bring together musicians, dancers, fashion designers and food vendors from across Africa, celebrating the continent’s culture, history and creative expression.
In a video message announcing his participation, Tony Umez said, “Ghana, I am coming. Yes, I am coming. This December I join the African Festival, not just as guest but as part of history. I am honour to play a role in the Second Coming of Nkrumah – The Musical. Join us as Africa tells her story,” he said.
Activities lined up for the festival include live music performances, cultural exhibitions, fashion showcases and traditional food fairs, all aimed at promoting African unity and creativity.
Organisers say the African Festival is designed to provide a platform for cultural exchange while offering audiences a blend of entertainment and education. With South African music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka on the bill, the festival is expected to attract music lovers from Ghana and beyond.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka, known for her timeless hits and decades of influence across Africa, continues to inspire generations through her music and humanitarian work. Her return to the Ghanaian stage is being welcomed as both a celebration of her legacy and a reminder of the strong cultural ties that bind African nations together.
The festival itinerary spans three days. On December 28, the festival opens with Don Quixote Africa, a localised reimagining of the classic tale. December 29 will feature the grand centrepiece, The Second Coming of Nkrumah – The Musical, at the Accra International Conference Centre, with shows at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The festival will climax on December 30 with a star-studded closing concert featuring African music icons including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Rocky Dawuni, Wiyaala, Bessa Simons, Amandzeba Nat Brew and The Adaha Band.
Throughout the festival, the grounds will also host cultural exhibitions, art markets and food courts, offering an immersive Black Star Experience for locals and the diaspora.
