In a targeted overnight operation, the Kintampo District Police Command conducted a major swoop on suspected criminal dens within the municipality, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics and related items.
The operation, which commenced at 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 18, focused on the farming communities of Babator and Kawampe.
Police reports indicate that a team encountered groups of young men and women openly smoking and selling dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Upon noticing the police presence, the individuals attempted to flee but were pursued and apprehended.
Those arrested include Issahaka Amadu, 25, trader, Afia Sumaila, 32, trader, Yaw Johnson, 20, trader, Dankwa David, 30, trader, Abdul-Hakim Sumaila, 16, unemployed, Kofi Vandam, 24, farmer, Yambon Cornelius, 25, farmer, Jagri Seth, 22, motor mechanic, Mubarick Manteiso, 36, labourer, Issahaku Abdul-Basit, 39, driver and Hamza Wedrago, 24, scrap dealer.
Exhibits Seized:
A thorough search of the scene yielded a haul of suspected illicit materials:
· 65 wraps of suspected cannabis
· 49 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis
· Compressed dried leaves (suspected cannabis) concealed in polythene bags
· 19 blisters of Tramadol tablets
· 5 blisters of a substance marked “red”
· Various cigarette packets: 5 Oris, 3 Royals, 1 Rothmans
· 4 keypad mobile phones, 1 radio set
· 4 pairs of scissors and 4 lighters
· Cash totalling GH₵682.80, believed to be proceeds from drug sales
According to the police, all seized exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes, and the suspects are currently detained for further screening and investigation.
The Kintampo District Police Command has commended the operation team for their vigilance and reiterated its commitment to raiding criminal hideouts and clamping down on narcotic activities within the municipality.
