The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has acquired 40,000 acres of land from the Yeji Traditional Council to advance the Feed the Industry programme, part of the broader Feed Ghana Initiative.
The initiative aims to boost large-scale cultivation, increase local raw material supply for industries, and reduce reliance on imports.
During a working visit to the Ministry by Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the sector minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the government is collaborating with private sector partners, including GB Foods, to implement the initiative.
She revealed that commercial cultivation of tomatoes, pepper, and ginger will commence soon on 6,000 hectares of land.
“In September, GB Foods will begin cultivating about 6,000 hectares of tomatoes, pepper, and ginger to supply local industries. We continue to engage traditional leaders for more lands. As of now, we have acquired 40,000 acres from the Yeji Traditional Council to promote the Feed the Industry programme and attract investors who want litigation-free lands,” she said.
The minister emphasised that the programme is expected to generate employment, support local farmers, and strengthen value chains across Ghana’s agribusiness sector.
She highlighted that the initiative represents a strategic step toward industrialising agriculture and enhancing domestic production.
With the land acquisition and planned commercial farming activities, the government aims to transform raw material sourcing for local industries and bolster economic growth through sustainable agro-industrial development.
