Rev Daniel Annan, Resident Pastor of Universal Gospel Centre, sparked discussion with his comments on the Let’s Talk show on Joy Prime, hosted by Aseiduwaa.
The conversation focused on the emotional struggles some men face, including how they deal with grief over the loss of a side chick without their wives noticing.
Annan suggested that men need money, power and sex to express their masculinity and authenticity.
According to him, these elements are essential to a man’s ability to reveal his real self.
Rev Annan argued that society expects men to show up as real men regardless of the situation.
He said, “A real man shows up irrespective of the circumstance. Men marry a woman as a wife by profession, but the reality of the wife is often the side chick.” He concluded.
He explained that a man’s strength and resilience are linked to his access to money, power and sex, claiming that these factors allow men to demonstrate their true masculinity. His comments have raised questions about how relationships are understood and whether such views reflect long-standing ideas about gender roles.
The pastor also addressed the emotional turmoil some men experience in marriage. He stated, “Some men may cherish their wives deeply, but deep down, they love their side chicks more.”
According to him, this conflict arises from the belief that many men marry the “wrong” women. He described such marriages as “transactional” or “coincidental,” shaped by societal expectations, parental pressure and sometimes church involvement.
He added that men marry the wrong women not by choice but by circumstance, suggesting that many marriages are built on external influences rather than emotional compatibility.
The discussion on Let’s Talk highlighted the need for a closer look at men’s emotional lives in a society where expectations of masculinity can be rigid and challenging to navigate.
